Mount Desert Island Hospital had to replace their standalone MRI unit with a more permanent structure that was directly accessible from the Hospital’s Breast Health Center. The challenge of meeting the isolation requirements of the MRI, site limitations, and having minimal construction disruptions, the project warranted a design / build project delivery. Throughout the design process, HEC+A worked closely with the hospital and a general contractor to overcome these challenges and resolve the needs of the facility. The end product only encompassed 900 square feet of total renovation to ultimately accept a new 60’ x 15’ modular unit specifically designed to house the MRI. That collaborative team effort also brought forth a better defined entrance to the Health Center while providing accessibility to those with disabilities.
